About Me

I am not an easy person to just sum up and put into one page. I will give it a shot though.

My name is Heather, but I use a pen name. Some people ask me why, while others just accept it. Honestly, it is because my SIL has the same name as me and I found it was hard for my friends to find me. After talking to friends and family, I fell in love with HB Redbird.

This blog was originally my place to vent frustrations and talk about my household (The Birdcage). When I changed the name from Chirps from the Birdcage to Birdcage Media, I decided to turn my blog into a voice for others as well. I have been through a LOT between 2012 and 2014.

I have been a mother since 2003, but after my daughter was born in 2011, I began to struggle with post-partum depression. This just continued to spiral as my husband was working roughly 80 hours a week in a job that we no longer cared for. He was depressed and never home and I was depressed and dealing with milk supply issues. It was a recipe for disaster. That disaster came on August 22, 2012 … when the state stepped in.

While I am a completely new person now, I contribute it to the fact that I have received help and discovered how to love who I am again. I am a more than a mom and I have a husband who is extremely supportive. He is where he wants to be … different job and a different life.

Because of this life-changing event, I have changed what I want my blog to share with others. I want people to know that they are not alone with mental illness. There are others with depression, bi-polar, OCD, etc. I want to take the taboo out of the discussion and diagnoses of mental illness.
