It has been a really rocky week. My daughter got a new dog on the 27th, however, we lost a family member who was dear to my heart the same day. My grandfather left this world, leaving behind a big hole in many hearts. While I know this is not the end, I am sad my children will hardly remember him when they get older and barely got time with him. I have spent the last week spending time with family, reading family stories, and mourning over the loss of a man who meant so much to me. He lived 90 good long years and got to experience a lot. He also was a strong testament of love and loyalty as my grandmother and grandfather were married for almost 70 years. I am glad for everything I was able to learn and gain from his life.
This week, Monkey also cut her first tooth. It hasn't fully grown in but it is through the gums. So far, I am counting my blessings because she has not bit me. She is also starting to get interest in solids. She is growing up quickly.
The funeral for my grandfather was on Wednesday and immediately following we planned on heading to Manhattan, however it was 110 degrees there and we had no intention of taking the kids out in that heat! So instead of leaving for Manhattan on Thursday, we left EARLY on Friday morning. We spent all day at Mema's house and let the kids do school and then play. At 4:30pm we were off to Purple Power Play on Poyntz. We were decked out in tutus and bows and purple! The bows were made by a good friend of mine who just opened a business called Glow's Bows. Her website can be found on Facebook at Olive's Bowtique. I still have a couple of business cards left for her business, so if you want one ... let me know!
The best day of the trip, though, was Saturday! We started the morning off watching our nephew participate in his first cross country meet. The Eisenhower Eagles took 5th place overall BUT our nephew shaved 10 seconds off his time! We are so proud of him!! Then we took the kids back to my parent's house and they played with their grandparents and with the neighbor girl. Got soaked, helped make lunch, played doll ... so much excitement that Monkey crashed for 3 straight hours, and then slept the whole way home ... and then fell asleep for the night about 45 minutes after getting home!
Today, though, showed me that apparently I was just more exhausted than I originally thought. I slept 6 hours straight ... then off and on for another 6 as my wonderful husband took the kids for me. I woke and am now feeling FANTASTIC. I just didn't realize how bad I really was. Luckily, I was able to catch up during a holiday weekend!
Here is our menu for the week:
