Controversial Issue ...

Well, I have spent the greater part of 2 days deciding whether or not to insert this blog post. It is a controversial topic but I am a blogger, that is what I do. Love me or hate me, I need to get this off my chest and move on with life instead of letting it eat away at me.

President Obama finally announced he supports gay marriage … and there was much rejoicing …....... and grumbling. I am pleased … and VERY irritated. Let me explain.

First off, gay marriage, in my opinion is a moral issue, not a legal issue. I believe firmly in the separation of church and state. Do I think that being gay is a sin …... yes. HOWEVER, I do NOT think that I have the right to dictate someone should have the same beliefs as I do. Nor do I think that because they don't have the same beliefs, that they should take the rights away from their loved ones. No I don't actively support gay marriage and I probably will never attend a ceremony, but if that is their choice … they should have the right to chose that. One of the benefits of living in a free country.

Now ….. President Obama …. sigh That man. I am SO not pleased with Obama. He first messed up the healthcare system and then threatened to stop paying the military because he can't get his people to figure out the budget. NOW, he wants to suddenly state that he is going to support gay marriage. Why? Because it is election year and because his kids have friends who have same gender parents. Could it be that he has seen someone have a “spouse” that has had health issues and not be able to get anything because they aren't legally married? I suppose. I have a HARD time with his timing. I personally feel it is a slap in the face of many gay people. They only matter when an election is at hand.

So, yes, disagree with me because I think that the country is moving towards gay marriage. Disagree with me because I think (while again I don't agree with it) abortion should be legal. Disagree with me because I believe that marijuana should be legal with the same restrictions alcohol and cigarettes have. That is your right. You live in a free country. Just remember there was a time when blacks and whites could not marry. Freedom comes in this country with a price. You need to take all of that into consideration when you live in a free country. Not everyone's wishes can be granted. This country was formed on the Bible, but it was also formed with the knowledge that people came here to escape persecution.

I am a straight, married woman who believes that the freedom to believe as you chose is a very important part of this life. I am not the judge, I am not the jury … nor am I perfect. I read the Bible and interpret as it is revealed to me. We will all find out the truths in the end … and we will not be the one judging … but yet, the ones being judged. God said to love one another, and yet because of politics, hatred is spewed? We all want the same end goals, and those are to establish justice, insure peace, provide defense, promote general well being and secure the blessings of freedom to ourselves and our future.
