I can understand being upset about a ticket. I can understand the frustrations of getting a ticket this close to Christmas. But what I am about to talk about today is just absolutely frustrating. It is frustrating because I am a mother. I have children that walk in school zones. I have friends in the construction business. People who put their lives on the line to work as fast as possible to get the road back into the condition it needs to be in for safe traveling.
APPARENTLY there are some TEACHERS, PARENTS, and STUDENTS who do not think there should be the high penalties for putting people at risk. There are a few things that you need to realize before I share the article. The first, is that Olathe has their fine amounts ONLINE for you to download and always have access to. You cannot claim you were unaware of what the rates were. The second, the people who are complaining in this article about the price they are paying are teachers and parents. The people they could possibly hit could be their fellow students and classmates. That would be horrific.
Now, for the actual story ...
Olathe East has some construction outside the school. Fines are doubled already because it is a school zone. Then, when you add the construction zone doubling ... it can lead you with $520 for going 35 in a 25 mph zone. That is a NASTY speeding ticket.
Parents and teachers apparently think it is outrageous.
Can I just say something real quick? DO.NOT.SPEED! Whoa! Novel concept, I know. There is NO way you will end up with a $520 ticket if you are going the speed limit! This is NOT rocket science. If you cannot figure out how to NOT get a ticket, I worry about your ability to teach the youth of the future.
So when you see THESE ....
Then actually follow the law. You know, don't "zip" through through a construction zone around a school. Do not go blaming the city. They are not the ones with the lead foot and no respect for the construction crew or students walking to school. They are the ones answering the concerns of nearby residents who see the cars driving around dangerously.
