This week's word on Hone Life is Yellow:
For me, the color yellow immediately reminds me of summer
and sunflowers. I am a Kansas Native and I look forward to driving past all of
the wild sunflowers and Black-Eye Susans when I am taking a trip. When I was
younger, we would go to my grandparents' house in Wichita and I spent a great
deal of time looking outside my window. I had an imaginary horse that ran
beside the van and would often gallop through fields of wheat that were
surrounded by wild sunflowers.
Sunflowers are technically a weed ... but they are a
beautiful weed. I have always believed this to show that regardless of what
someone is classified as, they do not have to be tied to that definition.
People put sunflowers into bouquets and they add a beautiful touch. Just as a
person who may be disfigured can offer something that will complete a project,
another person, or any other place in society.
As I was thinking about what sunflowers were and what they
add to a bouquet, I realized that no matter what I think of someone ... they
fit into the big picture. We need to spend less time on the classification of a
person (age, race, gender, beliefs, etc) and more on what that person has to
offer.
