Having your house broken into can be scary and traumatic. It will leave you feeling unsafe, but having deadbolts and new locks installed help restore that safe feeling. However, break-ins usually occur late at night, so you will need to either wait until morning or find someone awake at ungodly hours.
So ... the question now becomes, how do you pick a locksmith? You no longer have to gamble grabbing the phone book. You have the ability to research ... although this should be done long before you need the service! You want to make sure you are dealing with a reputable company because your personal belongings are at stake.
- Talk to your family and friends for recommendations
- Find several companies online and then research them through interviews and/or visiting their place of business.
- Find references and talk with them to see what their thoughts are on the service. If they really like them, find out why. Also ask if there are any aspects on the company that they didn't like. It doesn't necessarily mean you won't choose them or they wouldn't hire them again ... everyone just has little quirks that may bug them about the company.
- ALWAYS ask for estimates!!
- ALWAYS ask for insurance, licensing, and bonding
- Remember that first appearances are important. Make sure that they wear uniforms that clearly shows who they are and they are able to confirm your identity. You don't want someone changing your locks if they aren't sure you are the property owner.
- ALWAYS get an itemized invoice!!

I totally agree with this, and in fact I was about to mention surgical equipment in my comment below (I didn’t for conciseness).
