It has been a long weekend but it was great. Here is the summary of the fun we had.
Friday - we went to watch Guys & Dolls on Friday night at Leawood's Arts in the Park. We packed a cooler full of food and headed out to Ironwoods Amphitheater. We had plenty of time to eat and goof around before the musical started. The kids had a BLAST and I remembered going to watch the arts int he park musicals back in Manhattan. It was hard to not get teary eyed watching my children having as much fun as I remembered having when I was young.
Saturday - got up VERY early to get Jeremy to work and then pack up the van. We headed to Manhattan for a day of fun and socializing. We picked up James at his Nana & Poppa's house and of course got to chit chatting. Finally headed over to pick up Mema and head to the Splash Park. We had a LARGE group by lunch time. My mom, dad, sister, mother-in-law, niece, and brother-in-law all joined us at the splash park to hang with the kids and eat lunch. It was a great time and we saw a squirrel close up. Following lunch, we headed to the new City Pool. It is AWESOME. The only beef I had was that the extra life guards just sit around in chairs that could be used for paying customers and text. That would NEVER fly here in Kansas City. At the 3 o'clock break, we opted to take off and go get cleaned up at my parent's house. After a short play session, we were off to dinner at Vista. Then we were off to Sunset Zoo and watched Streetside. We only stayed for an hour though so we could get to the rodeo and carnival on time. Peanut was not able to ride sheep this year due to lack of time but she did ride carnival rides for 3 hours! Oh, and she squeaked by on the height requirements for certain rides. She had a blast with Aunt Tami. Grandma Mo joined us after the rodeo but I wussed out around 10:15pm when my feet became too sore to keep walking. In my credit, I was wearing shoes that didn't belong to me so I think I did pretty good! lol We finished the night off with Hawaiian Ice and a funnel cake.
Sunday - This Sunday was a very special day for us. Our nephew turned 12 on Thursday and he was ordained in the Aaronic Priesthood in Paola. We weren't able to stay long but we swung past their house afterwards to pick up our VERY tuckered out puppy dog (he got to play with another dog, 5 kids and a huge backyard for almost 3 days). Then Mema and our niece joined us for dinner and we had loaded omelets, pancakes and homemade biscuits. By 9pm, we were all tuckered out but our day wasn't over. Peanut's friend came to spend the night and the girls were up until almost midnight. I woke at 6ish this morning but kids slept in until almost 9am!!! I think they had too much fun.
We have a lot more fun activities planned for this week so watch for blogs as I have time!
