LONG but FUN 2 days!

The last two days remind me why I LOVE being a kid (well ... I guess having kids keeping me a kid at heart). Monday was simply the first day of the fair ... the real fun started on Tuesday!!

We got to the fair at 2pm and Peanut went in for her conference with the photo judge. She found out she got a blue on all three photos which was GREAT! Her barn picture had the leading line go across the page instead of heading into the barn. Her picture of Bullfrog at t-ball practice would have been better if she completely chopped off the sides so Bullfrog was the only thing in the photo. Finally, her swirl picture would have been perfect if she had chopped the people out and simply stuck to the swirl. The judge was impressed at Peanut's knack for photography at this age. *proud momma strut*

Her posters almost faired as good. Her self-determined poster for skating got a blue, while her poster for Health/Wellness got a red. She just needs to work on slowing down and taking a little more care in writing and tracing letters. They were both very cute and very creative ideas. The judge loved the photos she drew on them as well. Peanut is already looking forward to next year. *another proud momma moment*

After all that, we chatted and walked around. Finally had the kids register for the pedal pull (which they both failed at due to being short) and prepared for the Family Fun Night. Peanut was a 1/2 lb too heavy for mutton bustin' but she didn't seem to care too much at all. She cheered on the other kids and laughed as they hung on for dear life. Bullfrog never has shown an interest in mutton bustin' so he has always enjoyed watching them goof off. After the first round of mutton bustin' was calf scramble. Peanut LOVES the calf scramble even though she has yet to win. She listens to Grandma Mo give her tips on the best way to get a calf cornered for a ribbon off their tale. Bullfrog is excited that next year he gets to do the calf scramble because he will be 7 years old! Then after another round of mutton bustin', it was time for the greased pig competition. My kids get down and dirty for this one. Bullfrog will literally dive into the dirt for those poor little piglets! Peanut ended up helping catch and carry the final pig but there was a "misunderstanding" on how the pig was caught and carried so she ended up with no reward. I fixed that with a dollar in her pocket. The kids exchanged a few words before us parents stepped in and set everyone straight. Argument over, what's done is done, and we move on. Quick rebound when reminded that the entire night was about family FUN! However, the evening ended on a sour note when my van battery was dead. After about an hour of finding cables, finding a vehicle to jump it, cleaning the battery off, etc ... we were on our way home. Whew, another year done!

Tonight was another FUN night. I won tickets from KCMetromoms.com which is one of my FAVORITE web blogs. My friend Candy started this blog a few years back and I have been a member since the start of it ... I do believe we were friends PRIOR to the blog as well. I took a gamble and answered a question in HOPES that I might win tickets to tonight's T-Bone's game. I was OVERJOYED when I found out I did. I ran out the door and told the kids that they needed to get things together so we could start getting ready to go to the ballgame. They counted their money they had been saving for a fun summer event and found out they had $7. So, after begging that I let them, they spent the money on a sno cone and Dipping Dots. Now, Peanut actually had $5 and Bullfrog had $2 but there was some issues that occurred the night before and Peanut felt terrible, so she split her money so Bullfrog could get a sno cone. It was SO big that Bullfrog not only shared with her (and me) but also to a child he ended up be-friending tonight. The boys stayed paired up and played catch on the field after the game. *cue another proud momma moment* T-Bones didn't win but I could not think of a better way to enjoy the end of today. I absolutely LOVE my kids and LOVE the fact that they take HARD lessons in life and turn them around. It reminds me of a song in Sound of Music ... "somewhere in my youth, or childhood ... I must have done something good ..." *sigh*

*side note - this week is only HALF over!!!*
