When I was younger, we lived a block from the fair grounds. Basically lived there for a week out of the summer every year. Fair time is STILL my all time favorite time of the year. I now get to be the mom, and my kids get to experience fair life. I kinda like being the child better ... just saying!
For weeks we have been narrowing Peanut's thousand picture photo album on my computer to a very select 12 photos. As soon as we did that, we had to get all those photos printed. I am a sucker for coupons and deals. Found a GREAT coupon for Walgreens and got all of our photos for 40% off. It made up for the fact we had to re-print a few photos to get them to look just right. So, instead of spending $78 on photos ... we spent $31! Score!!
Then we had to get the mat board. 4-H extension office only does the mat boards for 4-H sizes. So, we were told to go to Hobby Lobby. Would have cost us $72 to have the boards cut for us, unless we wanted to place a bulk order. SO, we have learned for next year to just order in bulk ahead of time because they charge per cut. Would have only cost us about $7 to have the boards cut, instead we paid $17 to buy the large mat boards and cut them ourselves. Lesson learned.
That brings us to the food division .... *sigh* You KNOW it is fair week when the food division sends you out on shopping sprees 2 to 3 times a DAY! Yes, had to buy ingredients yesterday. We got all the ingredients for Chickadillas w/Summer Salsa-Slaw, unfrosted chocolate chip muffins, peanut butter cookies, snickerdoodles, blueberry muffins, and cereal bar treats. Well ... at least we thought we had all the ingredients. Nope, I forgot to count the number of eggs we had. *sigh* Today we have to get eggs and zip lock bags to put the prepared food in on for judging. Of course, that would be easy if I could remember the card with the money on it WHEN I go shopping. *facepalm* Picked up the eggs thanks to WIC and hubby picked up the bags while I stayed and monitored baking.
I am praying that tomorrow morning goes smoothly so we can get to Gardner, get food judged and then drop off the rest of our fair entries. I now remember why my mom was on edge all week when we were younger!
