L - Love

Well these posts are late, so I might sneak into May a bit. Blogging with a full workload is not the world's easiest task! 😍

Today's A to Z Challenge letter is L, and I am going to be talking about how to teach your children about love.

Love is a word that is a verb, which means it is an action. It is not something that keeps going once you have it. You need to learn how to nurture it so that it continues to grow. I view the word love as a flower. You start with something that is small, and with the right treatment, it can grow into something beautiful.

With children, they can teach you just as much about love as you can to them. Simply doing things with your children is an action of love. It shows them that you care for them and their interests. However, there is more to teaching children love. There are two ways to show love, volunteering and charity.

In the King James Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:13 says:
"And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity."

If you prefer the New International Version, it says:
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Notice that charity and love are interchangeable!  Charity is a display of love where you do not expect ANYTHING in return for an action. You give unselfishly. You are not looking for people to pat you on the back or give you a promotion. You are not to hold it over the heads of others or judge someone because you performed an act of volunteering.

When looking for activities, try these 9 ways to teach charity

With volunteering, you are performing an action without expecting payment. This is a great way to teach your children about growing a love for others.

How do you teach your child about charity?
