Been a LONG day

Well, I took my husband to work last night at 11:30pm. Got home and got the kids in bed when 10 minutes later I received a text from my husband. This in itself is not abnormal as we normally do our final good-nights via text message, however, this time the text was to let me know that he had slipped at work and hurt his ankle.

He tried to sit down and then walk it off but ended up having to crawl out of the back of his truck for help. I re-woke the poor kids and bribed them into the car with promises of toys, blankets, and fruit snacks. Took husband to the ER and after a couple hours, learned he had a severe sprain. *sigh* De ja vu of mid 2002. We got home at 4am and I took a quick cat nap. The pain was too great for Jeremy to get any sleep and the Lortab wasn't kicking in. :'( Kids got a day off from school since they had only had a couple hours of sleep. Peanut is fighting something nasty anyway so she wasn't going to be allowed to go anyway. Took Jeremy to his "occupational therapy" location (aka Workman's Comp) to get crutches since he couldn't put any weight on his ankle, talk about different pain management, and find out the damage to work. We were informed that he will be out anywhere from 2-6 weeks and that is just a HUGE blow. We are now praying for a quick recovery and that it can be 2 weeks rather than the 6. He came home and was still in massive amounts of pain, his foot was swelling like crazy, his toes were red and it just didn't seem like it was getting any better. I placed a phone call to my younger sister for assistance and after following her directions, Jeremy had IMMEDIATE relief. The swelling was still noticeable but it had reduced a TON and the pain was tolerable. YAY. After being up for 28 straight hours, he finally passed out because he was no longer fighting the pain. So, for now, he is taking a week of vacation to stay home and his wicked wife, aka ME, is going to make sure that he is on his butt 90% of the time, his foot is elevated as much as possible, it is iced on a regular basis, and he makes his physical therapy appointments. We need him back at work ASAP!! Just knowing that he was finally in a lot less pain going to bed was a huge light for us.

So, what about the kids? WELL ... they, for the most part, had a pretty fun day today. Now mind you, they were NOT happy about not being at school. They also weren't pleased with being stuck in the hospital for 4 hours in the morning, Workman's Comp for 2 hours in the afternoon and then a boring office for another half hour but we were proud of how well they handled things. They got stickers and candy. They got to watch movies and make their own lunch. So, Bullfrog let his imagination go. He took the tubes out of a toilet paper roll and made binoculars and then made a couple of buildings with his new Lincoln Logs. It made us laugh. Peanut really slept most of the day, which again shows me that she is fighting something pretty nasty.
