Take this iHop!

Okay, so I am part of a mom's board that has branched off of Baby Center and I have grown VERY close to these women. Well, one of them has been talking about French Toast for days. Normally this would drive me to want to go to iHop, well, not today. Today, I wanted to see if I could whip it out all by myself. So, I did ... and it is AWESOME! It rendered the kids SPEECHLESS. Okay, I am sorry but THAT is a winner dinner. We can't even get that at top restaurants!

I first made homemade white bread and cut it Texas Toast thickness. I used the wonderful bread cutter my mother found for us girls and gave us last year. I have to say, Christmas the past couple years have had AWESOME gifts! Then I dipped it in an egg mixture with nutmeg, cinnamon, zest and juice from one orange, milk, and 6 eggs. Stuck it on the griddle and cooked until done.

For the caramelized bananas, I sliced 4 bananas diagonally that were ripe but still SLIGHTLY green so they were firm. I melted a couple tablespoons of butter and then put the bananas in the pan. Cooked them until they were a golden brown color and then added brown sugar. Finally used 100% apple juice as the sauce. Let it reduce and then served on top of the French Toast.

Serve with sausage patties!

  2. Your French toast/bananas looks good. A note: I grew up eating French toast but we seldom used homemade bread. That was delicious just with butter and/or preserves. We had French toast made with the day-old bread or bread that had begun to be stale. Dipped in the egg mixture, fried in bacon or sausage drippings, covered with pure maple syrup.
